  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis the tasks would involve mainly shadowing the runner on the studio floor- doing what they do whether it's getting scripts for the cast or replenishing the props for the next scene. And on other days I would be in the offices doing the managerial /admin side of production e.g. from sorting out pre production paper work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I loved my time at the BBC being surrounded by people who love media and love what they do makes me very happy. Everyone was very welcoming, regularly gave me advice on any career issues I had and was just all round very friendly. My time at the BBC definitely exceeded my expectations since I understood everyone was busy doing their jobs but they took out time to support and explain protocols to me.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BBC?
  • I felt very valued by the people around me there was a lot of recognition on the floor about me and my conduct which really boosted my confidence. I partook in the same work that other entry level workers at the BBC too and it made me feel very appreciated that I was allowed to partake in the running of their shows on the first day!

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • From the start it was quite organised and structured I had specific areas to go to at certain points of the day and someone would come and collect me so I wasn't left alone. Everyday was set out before hand so it obvious they had taken out time to delegate what I had to do.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I did not neccesarily have a training provider I was just shadowing employees.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received heaps of support I was allowed to shadow not only on the studio floor but in the offices as well so that I could get a feel for what area I would like to go into. Any questions I had they would be answered and then I would be introduced to someone else who did that specific job I was asking about so great room for networking.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The placement I was on was voluntary so I wasn't given a salary.

    10/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I only did work experience with the BBC so there was no mention of outside work but I understand if it was a placement or internship then there would definitely be chances of outside work due to the massive support network I received there.

  • 9. Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because it gave me my first proper insight into the industry, it also offered me chances to network with people to try and get an entry level job in the BBC. It also gave me confidence seeing other people who started off getting work experience in the BBC and then being offered a job.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
  • The advice I would give to people is just to have confidence in your own abilities and you dont always have to have experience in the job or work experience your applying for. Just list your transferable skills and how they apply to the job. Always be on the look out for further opportunities and how it could benefit you in the future. The key is always network.
