  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • We had to make sure the shop floor was always clean and tidy. The makeup and all the products had to be nicely in order with correct prices. Had to always greet the customer and ask of they needed help in finding anything. This would involve showing the section they were looking for or checking the stock.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have vastly improved my customer service skills as i had to communicate with customers from the beggining of shift till closing. I also improved my team working skills where i learned how to adjust to others needs and listen. Also learned how to quickly solve any issue with an unhappy customer.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I started working part time whilst i was at university, i enjoyed the flexible shifts that worked well around my timetable. The managers were really understanding of it too so i never felt bad if i had to leave work early. I would reccomend working at superdrug for anyone looking to try something new.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Superdrug?
  • They always cared for me and my needs when i was studying so i can only compliment the staff and managers for making me feel welcome. Sure there were times when id make a mistake lets say at the tills and thr manager would say something to upset me but i am sure they did not mean it. It was a busy store so it is a surprise how family like the team was to me.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Well i was provided with a brief training when i started work but i would advice them to train people for longer just to make sure the staff feels confident enough to work on their own. In terms of the work place being structured, id say it was good. Rotas were always clear .

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Maybe it is only the store i worked at but i was only given the training for two days and my shifts were 4 hours each day so i did learn a lot but i wish i could have had a proper training for at least a week because of how busy the store was. After i got the hang of it though it became easier. There was always a manager around if i needed help.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I can not answer this because i never met anyone besides the manager. I would assume the company does care for their staff as manager would always try and make sure we were doing okay after calling in sick or if we had any other issues.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I only worked part time and i was under 21 so i got paid under 6 pounds which was a joke but i needed the experience. I think they should pay everyone a set amount as i did the same amount of work like others whilst they were getting paid more. My salary only covered half of my rent.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Work wise there are a lot more of them and that is why i did not stay in the company for long. Low pay is one of the reasons as other places pay at least minimum wage. Superdrug wise, there wasnt many opportunities to climb career ladders unless you knew someone in management well.

  • 9. Would you recommend Superdrug to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a good place to start out and get work experience also you get staff discount for any product which saves a lot of money. The team is usually friendly so that serves as a bonus and makes the shifts go quicker. You also get knowledge on make up and beauty products. The experience looks good on cv and helps in finding a job.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Superdrug?
  • Make sure your cv is interesting but concise. Prepare for the interview by checking company's profile online and what brands they sell and promotions that they do. They will ask you this to check if you are knowledgeable and really want to work for them. Also wear smart casual clothing to appear professional as they really care about that.
