  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Software Engineer, although have recently gone to a Technical Delivery Manager. It involves the use of the eBusiness suite Oracle application iBuy. This is where POs are raised for subcontractors and resources. Also currently doing some data analysis for Hyperion Essbase

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have obtained a Foundations degree in Software Engineering, a level 4 NVQ, many oracle qualifications and also Aptitude

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Its great to always meet new people and be challenged with new problems that need to be solved. We also feature a very diverse and culturally interesting staff list

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BT?
  • Very much so, I have a great manager. I can always get help when needed and always feel comfortable raising issues and asking for advice.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Academically it was very well organised, however some of the first year was a bit hairy as no one really knew what we could do or what work would be suitable for us. this makes sense though as the application can be complex and require a very broad knowledge base.

  • As much as is needed

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • salary is very generous for an apprentice. assimilation grade is supposed to feature a great pay rise also, however this is yet to be confirmed

  • loads of events for socialising and meeting new people. these are both internal and external

  • 9. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes

  • great salary, varied work to complete, free degree, free NVQ, loads of chance to flourish into a respected and knowledgeable individual


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • be honest and be yourself, don't try to outsmart yourself it will only come back and shoot you in the foot
