I spent a week within Colour Centre in the marketing area of the company in order to gain experience. My tasks to fulfil each day varied and were different from the next. I worked in a small office space with the manager and another worker who were there to aid me when needed and also completed their own work. I created blog posts for one of their blogs and completed research on social media to do this. I also compared prices for certain product the company planned to sell by looking at other stores online. I had also been given the task of using Google Analytics to record certain figure from the company's website.
I have learnt have to make use of Google Analytics and found how the use of this service can benefit a company. I've also been given the opportunity to conduct my own market research for building blog posts via social media (YouTube, Instagram).
I enjoyed the programme very much. I signed up to work within Colour Centre's marketing sector as I had a specific interest in this area of business. This was the chance for me to figure out whether or not marketing was something I wished to take part in, in the future. I found that I do have a great interest in this sector as the experience was interesting and eye-opening.
I felt very valued during my week. The manager was really supportive and understood that I many not understand everything he had asked me to complete, so he was very through with his instructions. Everyday I came into the building staff from the shop floor and the office would greet me as it is a small company building where everyone knew each other.
The tasks I was given to complete were rather spontaneously given and the programme was not very structured. Despite this, i was given the proper support I would have expected. When I was to do something unfamiliar to me the manager would properly show me how to complete my task. This was the case when I first used Google Analytics to record date.
The support I received was reassuring. The manager worked in the desk right in front of mine and often asked me whether I was getting along alright and answered any questions I has. When a problem has occurred while comparing prices of products the manager understood my situation and let me know that this happened sometimes. I believe this experience was partly enjoyable because of the support I received not only from the manager but also other staff members who would come into the office and wish me luck during the week.
My employer was my manager during my week's work placement. The support I received was immense.
I was not to be paid for the duration of the week as I was their to gain experience while I was free from school. However, I was paid at the end of the weeks as the manager said that the work I had completed was much more than they would have expected of me. The building was a 40 minute walk from my home which I did not mind crossing so travelling incurred no costs.
This is something I am not too such about. I know that I have gained a multitude of transferable skills which I can use to the benefit of future employers and myself. However, I am not too involved in events outside of school and in my local community where these skills can be put to use at this current time. Between work during the week I would try to complete my school assignments.
Yes
It is a very fulfilling experience. I found out how working would be like in the real world and the experience ha had an impact of future choices of mine, such as my chosen university degree. I have learnt many useful skills and I also know what is expected within a typical workplace (i.e. dress code).
I would let them know that it is a very enjoyable opportunity. If the person has a genuine interest in advertising and marketing then they would find it so. The staff available are very welcoming people and are a great support to have around. I would have liked to have know what tasks I would have be given in advance, only so I would have had the chance to prepare myself for them.
