I was a Sales Advisor and every day I had to tend to customers, look after displays, move stock from the sales floor to the changing rooms and keep the shop floor tidy. I had to organise with the other Sales Advisors and Supervisors so that we made sure everything was running smoothly. It was my main responsibility to keep the customers happy and help them to finalise a purchase.
I gained a lot of confidence from being one of the faces of the company and lost quite a lot of my shyness when it came to talking with strangers and new people. The job helped me to learn to be more organised and to pay attention to detail. They did offer to train on how to use the tills and bumped up the contract hours for good performance.
I really enjoyed it and would always go back.
I felt really valued because they rewarded us when we were doing a good job.
I worked temporarily and part-time so often the hours would be last minute and they would call me the day before into work. I didn't mind though as I was working in the Summer and had nothing else to do other than work once the university term ended.
Whenever I had a question or concern, the supervisors were very approachable and I could ask them anything.
They supported us well and made us feel looked after.
Luckily, I got a lift into work every day and was living at home, so for me it was ok but otherwise it would not have been enough.
I never went out with anyone outside of work although they were really friendly. Debenhams didn't organise anything for us as far as I knew.
Yes
I enjoyed my time there and it was useful to earn a bit of money for university.
Be professional and smart as Debenhams has a quite good reputation and there are some up-market brands there. The interviews are not too difficult as long as you know your experience and can relate it to the job. You will be in a group with other people at the start which is nice too as you can get to know people you might work with.
