  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a software engineer, specifically a .NET developer. My daily tasks include anything from server admin, live support, software testing and software development. I have interactions with a wide variety of people on a daily basis and have learned a lot from my day job. Most of which has also helped me with my degree work. Currently, I'm working to upgrade a system's infrastructure, meaning most of my days consist of me working on servers, studying system's architecture and installing and configuring web apps.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since being here, I've learned a great deal. Especially since becoming a software developer and starting my Degree Apprenticeship. My team are very supportive and have sent me on multiple training courses in the time I've been here and have helped me to become a competent software developer, amongst other things. I've also learned a great deal as part of the Degree Apprenticeship. And thanks to that, I now have a better understanding of multiple programming languages as well as other things such as networking and hardware, and I've only been doing it for 11 months. Its also challenged me, helping me to further develop myself as an IT professional.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Firstly, I enjoy being in the team I'm in. I am grateful that I get to work in such a role so early in my career. I am surrounded by great people from whom I've learned a great deal. In addition to my experience in my team, I've also greatly enjoyed being a part of Capgemini as a whole. I've found their company culture and initiatives to be brilliant. I try to get involved with the internal initiatives as much as I can, as they have helped to shape my career to how it is today.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Capgemini?
  • In short, I feel greatly valued by Capgemini. The feedback and motivation that I receive from my management and peers, really makes me feel that I'm a valued and appreciated employee. I've received internal recognition for multiple pieces of work and have also been involved with external Capgemini social media initiatives. An example of this recognition would be when I finished the 'Accelerated learning environment' at the start of my degree apprenticeship. I got an award from my team in recognition of the grades I had achieved. Aside from feedback, I've also been given great responsibility within my team and have been involved with some really interesting projects that I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My program is clear and structured. We were shown the structure before we enrolled on the program and so far, 11 months in, I haven't had any concerns with the courses structure. There is a fairly standard routine of revision, evening lectures/webinars and on campus teaching that I have now become used to and is a part of my everyday routine. We also get support from the university and our employer. They are both very mindful of each other. My management understand the structure well and are very supportive of me.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a great deal of support from my employer. They are understanding in times leading up to exams and I get a good amount of study leave in order to prep for such events. They always respond well to any questions/queries I have and are generally very supportive of me. They often ask how I'm doing and how I'm finding the course and take a great interest in my progress.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I'm fortunate to live very close to my base location which reduces my travel costs a great deal. My salary more than covers any living expenses I have and also allows me to save for my future without issue.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Outside of work, there are plenty of opportunities. Be this community activities or other company initiatives such as challenges. I have been involved in a handful of these since I joined and have enjoyed every one. They have enabled me to get involved with things that I wouldn't otherwise get the chance to.

  • 9. Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • They are a great company to be a part of. My time here so far has been greatly enjoyable and I have learned so much since joining. The opportunities I have received have been brilliant and I am very grateful for everything Capgemini has done for me. Its helped to develop me as a person and a professional. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Capgemini to a friend.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
  • If I was to give some advice, it would be to show any relevant interests you have the best you can. For me, this was web development. I would also say don't be intimidated by the application process. When I first applied, I honestly didn't know how I would do. I had never been through such a process before and I was very nervous. As I went through the various stages, they were never as bad as I'd first imagined. I always felt welcomed, and calm when I had been so nervous on the lead up to it.
