  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Being on a placement scheme means that daily work changes dramatically between roles, departments and placements. I am currently in a financial reporting and controlling role compiling the Sarbanes Oxley reporting pack on a monthly basis including other ad hoc tasks to assist the Project Controllers. This really interests me as the work is suited to what i would like to do full-time.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The list of skills I have acquired during the time I have spent on the Academy is endless. It includes competencies that can be taken into any business or role such as how to interact with various level of employees, Microsoft Office skills and task prioritization. Furthermore, I have gained knowledge within specific industries which will assist in furthering my career.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Accepting this role within Siemens was the best thing for me and I can say that I have never regretted choosing this option over university. Not only is the experience exactly what can help kick start a successful career but there is also a social aspect which provides connections across the span of the organization. I have enjoyed 95% of my programme overall i would say.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Siemens?
  • I have found that working for Siemens brings many additional benefits that are not known about outside of the business. There are no expectations within the business and so personal choices are supported. Furthermore, there is a lot of investment in employees. Training courses are provided to further skills in multiple disciplines and excellent work does not go unnoticed.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • There are 2 sides to the structure of the programme. The first 12 months are planned out for you depending on your location and then your placements will be decided based on your personal preferences. This allows you to get as much out of the placements as possible and i think this is also a really good scheme and system to have in place as the programme allows people to feel more fitted into the environment too.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Siemens are a huge customer for the training provider which means that if any of us require further assistance with studies then it is available for us. There are always contacts that are available for us to talk to including tutors at each training center. I get some good advice and helpfulness from my training provider and i am happy with this as well.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As Siemens train individuals from an early age they understand that we come into the business without much previous experience. Therefore, not only do our managers provide us with support, employees throughout the business are there to assist us in our development and any issues we may have because the chances are that they started working for Siemens on a similar scheme.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Personally I feel that all of my monthly costs are suitably covered by my salary package and considering I put a significant amount in a savings account each month, I am very happy with my annual salary and the additional perks that come with it as well. I think that the wage would also be an incentive for other school leavers to join as finding a job straight after finishing school is very hard.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • As there are multiple schemes within Siemens which are similar to the Finance and Commercial Academy, there are a lot of employees who are of a similar age to myself who also travel to different locations. Therefore, there are frequent social and sporting events which are completely open to anyone who would like to join. I have always found that Siemens employees are perfectly happy to include others in corporate or social events.
