  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a Degree Apprentice working towards a Bachelors Degree in Automation & Control created by Siemens in collaboration with Salford University. I work with the Automation Engineering Department in DF&PD. My daily tasks are working on automation projects specifically doing technical electrical drawings, whether it is creating them or editing them with softwares such as AutoCAD. I also make component parts list based on the project requirements for components to be ordered, and build the panels once the components are in for testing and configuring of the automation systems. I work with 2 great colleagues one male and one female and as a great team we get our work done successfully.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have improved my skills regarding the use of softwares such as AutoCAD. I have also learnt how an ordering or purchasing system works within a huge company like Siemens which I am sure I can add as a skill to my bank of skills. Training courses are also provided which I have been registered for such as LV cop, AutoCAD Engineering, PCS7 programming, TIA Portal. and these will come with certificates to be used for future cases

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am enjoying my programme completely. I am very integrated in the team and work here is a plenty. We are plenty busy so days go fast and my colleagues here are lovely so you enjoy while you work. Siemens is also a great company to work for with plenty support systems in place for the apprentices. I am at the start of my apprenticeship and am very excited for the future.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Siemens?
  • I have a good relationship with my managers here and feel very integrated as I have a lot of responsibility in the work I do and do that work very independently in the sense that nobody is looking over my shoulder and therefore showing their trust in me and my abilities.

  • There are plenty opportunities available outside of work and the company encourages us to engage in them as the identify them as great ways to build communication skills and to promote networking. • 9. Would you recommend Siemens to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Siemens is a huge company that is going nowhere so job security will be the littlest of your worries. They have great benefits packages available and career opportunities are endless. Siemens is so huge that even if you fancy a change of career or location you can do that within the same company. Otherwise they promote a great working culture.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
  • Just do it. Apply online and sell yourself at the interview stage if you are selected. Always be honest, keep calm, and just show them who you are, you values, your work ethic. Just what you are about really.
