  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am in HR Expertise which means I work with talent and learning. Currently day to day I analyse data to review for our next recruiting season for interns and Grads. Also I am working with the on boarding visiting and co-ordination the hotel for our IPSP event in June and also preparing for the UFLP's to join in September. Moving to the learning side I am currently organising the roll out of "purpose" workshops across the whole of UK and Ireland along with creating something called the learning month for the UK and Ireland as well.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During my time at Unilever so far I have developed my communication skills through email and also with people in person with has help with my networking. I have also been given the opportunity to run meetings which is an important skill to have especially to move up in the company. My Microsoft office skills have been given many opportunities to develop especially PowerPoint and Excel as unilever provided course for all of the apprentices.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The company has gone beyond my expectation as they are extremely flexible to the needs you may have. Everyone in the company is very open and friendly and you can speak to anyone without feeling like they're speaking down to you and everyone is always happy to help with any problem you may have. The space it very open and you are given the opportunity to work with people from all levels making you feel equal. I get on very well with my team but also all of the apprentices are very social and have many opportunities to mix.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Unilever?
  • I'm given a lot of Responsibility at unilever which makes me feel very respected my team and the company for example by being allowed to co-ordinate the purpose roll out I have people at all different work levels asking for my opinion and advise when they have a problem which allows me to feel very trusted and as if my work and thoughts are valuable.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Even though to start there was a bit of confusion about which course work we were doing due to no fault of their own (we were waiting for government approval) the company have made sure that we can ask any questions and we had two meetings with the providers to make sure we 100% understood what was going on. One of the great things about being an apprentice at unilever is that we don't only get the Level 3 training we are involved in courses and workshops that allow us to develop skills needed in the working world like presentation skills and writing skills and many more, there is all so opportunity to look at thing to develop our mental and physical well being such as sleep work shops and knowing me knowing you workshops. I have weekly meetings with my line manager to make you I know what I'm doing or if there are things I need to improve this time also gives me a chance to ask any questions I might have.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Our training provider gives us weekly contact and we also get one to one meetings to make sure that we are on track with everything we need to do. Our advisor also keeps us up to date with anything we may need to know about coursework scheduling or changes. The conversations are very relaxed which allows you to feel more confident in opening up with any problems.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • At unilever if I ever have a problem there is always someone to go to even if it is a small mistake you are never made to feel silly. Everyone in the company is always more than happy to help out so even if your line manager is away you never feel like you're alone and I am always confident I have someone I can go to.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary is quite high compared to other apprenticeships I have seen so in that case apprentices at unilever are very lucky. Not only do we start on a good salary if can be increase after a set about of time is your line manager believe you deserve it. If you ever have to travel somewhere that isn't your usual location the agency is more than happy to reimburse you. the location for me is perfect at it is only a short drive from my house but if you do need to get a train Unilever offer a FREE bus from the stations which is very regular and easy to get.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Currently I am part of the soft ball team which is a great networking opportunity with not only people in the company but with people from others as well. It is very relaxed and super enjoyable! The apprentices have also had a couple social event and soon are planning to do an army obstacle, it allows to make friends and get part of the university experience. The free gym also has classes twice a day for anyone to go to where again its lots of fun and can meet new people.

  • 9. Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have been very happy ever since joining Unilever and believe I am extremely lucky to be here, there is a great community and the work balance it very fair. Days fly by in a few second when I am working here and everyone seems to love their job as well. A bonus of working here is that when you apply it's not for a specific job you could be placed anywhere and for someone who has just left college and doesn't really know what they want to do that is perfect because the place you so well based on your skills and personality everyone in my intake could not be happier with where they have been placed.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
  • The process is very simple and straight forward you apply online then do a couple of simple test, do a phone interview and then go for an assessment centre. Once you have got to the assessment centre you already know you have the skills required for the job so just relax enjoy yourself and be Yourself as they want to know if you fit with the people in the team which is important for you when joining.
