  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am required to help with the design of the equipment within Location cases on the railway. This involves gathering a wide range of knowledge as there are many different aspects to this design.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot to do with using computer aided design software as well as different skills involved with working on the equipment that has been installed or is due to be installed on the railway.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I find the programme enjoyable as we are always being encouraged to learn more and try to further ourselves. The programme feels as though its aim is to further our skills and knowledge in order to help us be successful within this job.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Siemens?
  • As we progress through the apprenticeship we are given more responsibility which makes me feel like the work I am doing is valued and I am also valued as part of the team.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • At times the programme could be a little better organized as there are parts of the apprenticeship where I feel like we could use more assistance and help with understanding some roles.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The training provider is always willing to send us on any training courses that will be beneficial to our development and occasionally reaches out via email to see how everyone is getting on and if we have any problems we can discuss this with them.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • If we have any problems or we are struggling then we are encouraged to ask someone we are working for or with for help with the understanding of what we are doing. There is always someone who is willing to help you learn and progress.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • As an apprentice the salary is not too bad and can certainly cover costs of living while working through the programme. However it was said to us by managers when we started that we would go up in small increments every year of the apprenticeship which then ended up not happening and we weren't told of any changes until the time for this to happen came around.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • The company is happy to put you through college and/or university in order to further your qualifications and help you further your career within the firm. They also offer lots of volunteering roles outwith the workplace.

  • 9. Would you recommend Siemens to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a big company which will provide you with a secure career in a time when jobs are anything but secure. They are also a company which is genuinely interested in furthering its staffs knowledge and helping them go as far as they can in their career.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
  • If you are interested in a career that will focus on furthering your skills and knowledge then you should definitely consider a career with siemens.
