  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job title is an Apprentice specialising in Manufacturing Engineering at Eaton Aerospace. My job is to learn the various kind of jobs that the employees do on site. This means I am on a rotation schedule that happens about every 2 months where I would be working in a new area. Each section of the site covers the different processes that parts go through until they are the finished product.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt basic engineering skills that I didn't have before I started the apprenticeship. This has helped from the course that I am doing at college that's a practical engineering course, gaining me practical skills as well as knowledge. I have learnt how important everything is and how all jobs are done to a professional standard to ensure it is 100 percent. Also gained more confidence and continuing to develop myself

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am enjoying it very much. I have already learnt different aspects of the business and how it functions to ensure that all the objectives are met and continue to be successful. I enjoy working with my team mates, building confidence and training me to a good company standard.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Eaton Aerospace?
  • I do feel appreciated by the company. I have been granted the other areas of the site that I wish to gain more experience in that will benefit me. I have also shown consistency and improving myself all the time. I do try my best and have been given recognition for it

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme was well structured to begin with based on the area I would be spending time in over the course of 2 years. However that has now changed since I was moved to another area on site and a training programme has since not been established.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I have been receiving good support at college from my lecturer; he has been helping me with anything I am not sure on and would show me how to do it. The college is a good training provider in terms of having good facilities to carry out the training.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive good support from whoever is training me and from my mentor. My mentor has been supporting me in terms of asking me how work is going, if there are any concerns I have and also helping me with my NVQ.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • It is very good. I am earning a salary that's considerably more than the national minimum wage of an apprentice and a worker. I am comfortable with my living costs and travelling to and from work. It also helps me save for my future which is a deposit for a house and flight training.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are various opportunities that work offer for life outside work. For example there is free gym membership that work pay for all employees. Also there are recreational activities such as walks and playing football. Also there is 3 peaks challenge that's been organised to raise money for charity.

  • Yes

  • For someone who wants a career in Engineering, I think Eaton is the right company who can offer a good rewarding career with many benefits. There is opportunities to develop yourself, gain more qualifications and progress yourself.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Eaton Aerospace?
  • For people who are applying, I would advice that during the interview that they be themselves, don't change your style. Tell them what they want to hear and actually have a chat to the mangers during the interview. this will make you approachable and friendly. Talk to them about yourself, what you like to do in your spare time. Do some prior research about the company which will help.
