Maintenance Engineer Review

I am a maintenance engineer which requires me to carry out routine checks, fix faults and damaged parts. my responbility alomgside other maintenance engineers to keep the lines running and ensure all mahcinery/tools/equipment work efficitnely and effectively.

I will be achieving NVQ Level 2 and 3, BTEC diploma in engineering L3 as well as a HNC and HND qualification alongside many practical skills such as welding, turning, milling, hydrualic and pnuematics etc., as well as business skills and working amongst a team at work.

I enjoy working with a variety of people and gaining a wide variety of skills. There is a range of jobs to be completed and I enjoy the diversity of job roles. The apprenticeship is very hands on as well as being theory based, so what ever you learn in class can be implemented in the work place and practiced.

The BMW group encourages apprentices to achieve the best of their ability and most workers in the plant will help teach and show apprentices how to carry out tasks and implement wisdom. Aprentices are encoruaged to attend events outside of work and advertise apprenticeships and the BMW group.

The programme is fairly well structuted, placements could be a little more organised for apprentices however there is limited jobs for apprentices to do, due to the nature of industrial work. It is quite hard to manage one day release to college and fulfill a full week of work.

Offer some help and guidance, as well as support with college work and deals with any queries or complaints with college or apprenticeship. Good communication with all apprentices and easy to get in contact with if there is an issue or problem.

BMW group is such a large company I do not feel like there is a lot of individual support but huge support for all employees in general. Constant communication and updates from HR about events and news around the BMW group.

The initial salary was not sustainable however the 6 month pay rise helped reach a sustainable income to help towards living costs. It would be better if we could do shifts as the shift pay would help cover additional costs like travel and social costs.

Being a large international company there are lots of opportunities to go abroad, go on training courses, take part in company events and company acitivities such as the mountain challenge. The BMW group also support a number of different schemes such as cycle to work scheme etc.

It is a good international buisness with a lot of opportunity and diversity of job roles. There is good support for all employees and the slaary is competitive with additional bonuses and perks.

Do not under estimate the amount of work there is to do, inside and outside of work. there are many experiences to be siezed when working in a big industrial company like BMW and its important to be open to all opportunities and jump at any chance available. The recruitment process is quite long with a number of different parts to it.
