I carried work experience at Penman Johnson in Watford for 4 days. I researched criminal cases and typed up summary of cases which were then checked by a solicitor in the firm. The firm atmosphere was not friendly at all, they were quite firm and if you got something wrong they were very annoyed. I also typed up dictations and answered the telephone.
I learnt how to undertake legal researching and how to manage a big work load under pressure. I gained new skills as how to use Microsoft word and Microsoft Excel.
I did not enjoy my time and I would not want to work there in the furture. They made my feel very unwelcoming.
I did not feel valued at all. I was running around, always busy and helping out but received no recognition from any solicitor in the firm. I was most of the time, kept out of main tasks.
There was no induction and they did not know what they should give me to do. So most of the time, I was sitting there bored or made to make the tea. It was not well structured.
I received very little support. They did explain the task and how it should be done, ut other than that there was no guidance or checking to see if I had any problems.
None at all. They gave no examples of how others had carried out legal researching. There was no real mentor either. I had clients in the firm to help as well and was not trained how to interact with them.
Not relevant as it was unpaid work experience and it cost me getting there,
None this work experience did not help me at all. I got no job opportunity from this afterwards.
No
It was not friendly at all. They were not very nice.
