  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently I am a Regional Remediation Team Leader for Mid Market enterprises (I cover South & East region). My day starts early in the morning (in the office by 7am) when I catch up with my emails that come through overnight (working for a global company means with have operational offices covering all sorts of time zones). I then assign workload for a day to my Team (remediation cases, repairs). I will have a Team meeting to touch base and schedule time for conference calls etc. I will quality check my teams work and submit it for quality assurance. I will spend time with my team to develop their skills and guide them on new processes and procedures. I will provide insights to senior managers and collate all necessary data. My external interactions are limited to occasional meeting with company directors however I network will internal stakeholders.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During my apprenticeship I was a senior councillor in Retail Branch of the bank. I gain an enormous set of skills that led me to different roles. I learned to be more vocal about ideas that I have, to network and to share best practices. My communication skills improved and led to me taking part in various projects. I've successfully completed external qualifications (diploma in compliance) as apprenticeship gave me the confidence to develop my technical skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It was a challenging process to meet business requirements (working in a busy high street branch) but very rewarding. My line manager and my team were very supportive and always accommodating so I was able to spend time with my assessor. I was able to apply skills directly into my day to day job and coach my peers. I did enjoy the whole programme and I would do it all over again if I could.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by HSBC?
  • The fact that I was encouraged to complete the apprenticeship is a big deal for me. When my employer is willing to invest funds and time into my development, that is a sign that I am working for a very good company. I was promoted quite a few times after completing the apprenticeship and I took part in numerous projects. My skills set enabled me to share my knowledge and coach my direct reports and peers. In few weeks time I am travelling to India to help with remediation project so I guess HSBC values me and my skills.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme was well structured and I was encouraged to take ownership of my time and schedule. I was provided with time to complete my learning. Feedback about my progress was provided on a regular basis.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My tutor organised meetings to guide and support me. I was always able to contact her if I was unsure of something. She was with me throughout the whole journey and always had CAN DO attitude.

  • I was provided with time to study and encouraged daily by my line manager to take part in additional activities.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Taking into consideration that my rent takes nearly half of my salary this is not an ideal situation. London is very expensive so I think salaries should reflect that to attract more talent. I am a Team Leader with over 10 years of experience and sometimes I do feel undervalued when it comes to my salary.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • A lot of activities are organised locally by small teams but not many events organised on a larger scale. It would be nice to network on a larger scale. A lot of voluntary activities that I always encourage my Team to take part in.

  • Yes

  • Endless opportunities for self development and career.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HSBC?
  • Be yourself and be the best that you can be. Don't stress to much during interviews (I know.. it's not easy) and blow your own trumpet (this is the only time that its ok NOT to be modest).
