  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Overview of the role and day-to-day activities are different depending on the department I am in as we rotate to different departments every 3-9months. I am currently in Mergers and Acquisitions Tax team. There are 2 types of work streams that I get involved - Tax structuring and tax Due Diligence. In tax structuring I help my managers analyse different effects of the steps in the transaction whereas with due diligence reports, I analyse tax information provided from the clients (for example tax computations) to see if there are any issues in tax that would make the buyer of the company worried.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, we are currently studying for AAT Level 4 and will be specialising soon in Tax, Audit or Advisory which will give us Level 7 qualification. There are many internal training courses that I attend - we have monthly modules in Tax department for half a day on any practical matters such as SPAs or Transfer Pricing.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme really much. The programme allowed me to do more than just a day job. I am involved in lots of volunteering opportunities where I go out to college and promote the programmes we have. I also help recruitment team with the events in KPMG which makes me feel valued and if I wasn't in this programme I wouldn't be able to have that impact on other students.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by KPMG?
  • I feel very valued. We have a system in place where if we go beyond and above our expectations we receive an internal award which is a voucher - I already have around 5 o them! Colleagues provide constructive feedback when asked or if after a bigger project which keeps you on your feet with the skills that you are utilising well and also skills to improve.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is extremely structured. The first week I joined, we had an induction which gave us confidence and helped us to transition from school to work environment. We also had specific training that was dependant on the department that you would be joining first. We have performance manager, resource manager and people leader from KPMG360 team, line manager, people leader and a buddy from our own department and a mentor that we can choose.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Our training provider is BPP and the support we receive is very good. We have classroom lessons for more difficult subjects, online lessons for easier ones and self study for the very easy ones. We can always contact our tutor or any other performance manager from BPP if we have any questions. We also have calls with performance managers from BPP to discuss our progress.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer. We have performance manager, resource manager and people leader from KPMG360 team, line manager, people leader and a buddy from our own department and a mentor that we can choose. If we have any problems we can get in touch with any of the people detailed above taking into consideration what kind of problem it is.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Because I live outside of London, the costs of living or for travel aren't very big therefore my salary covers it quite well. Daily costs and social costs really depend on what kind of lifestyle you want to have but the salary that I receive allows me to live comfortably and not worry about it.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • o I am involved in very exciting volunteering opportunities. Me and my colleague [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] are responsible for managing the relationship between KPMG and Tower Hamlets College. We organise sessions that help students gain insight about KPMG School Leaver Programmes. In the sessions we discuss the requirements for different programmes and the skills they need in order to be successful candidates. In addition, we are due to launch a new mentoring programme where our colleagues from KPMG help to raise aspirations of Tower Hamlets College Students. I decided to take this role because Tower Hamlets College has given me huge amount of support and introduced me to the programmes that KPMG offer. I am now able to give that support back and help students achieve their aspirations.

  • 9. Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • KPMG gives you a career not just a job. Longer-term opportunities depend on the amount of effort you are prepared to put in. You can become Assistant Manager in 6 years through KPMG360 Programme, you can do secondments to different countries after you qualify, you can be involved in more difficult long term volunteering activities and more. However, if there is opportunity that doesn’t currently exist you can also try bringing people together to create it.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
  • I think it is very important to give your full efforts into preparing for the next step that you have to take instead of getting overwhelmed with the whole application process. Specifically for interviews I would try to prepare for it by attending one of our Get Ahead sessions. I would also say that it is very important to research KPMG, not just what services it provides, but really trying to understand the values that people in KPMG have, different events that we run.
