  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work as an apprentice for KPMG. I rotate around the different functions of the business - tax, audit, advisory and restructuring for 3-6 months in the first year and then I 9 month rotations in my second year. When I was in Tax, my daily tasks included writing engagement letters, writing draft reports and proposals and getting a new client set up on the systems. In audit, I will do various test controls such as 3 way match and do a cast of the draft final accounts. I interact a lot with management and my own cohort; when on client site I will personally interact with the finance team in order to retrieve the information we require to perform an efficient audit.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am on my way to earning my Level 3 AAT qualification which will enable me to move to level four and then chartered. I am offered various training such as excel, use of internal systems and courses on how to build your network and build your confidence. I think that I am now a lot more confident and I can now use Microsoft systems well and I can use business terminology with confidence.

  • I would say do your research and go on the student room as there are hints and tips as to what to expect during the application and assessment centre process. Also try and attend KPMG recruitment events as this will give you first hand information and give you a feel for the company and also help you network.
