  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to maintain the production plant. My plant specifically manufactures vegetables and noodles. Day to day jobs include repairing any machines which have broken down, looking to make improvements within the factory, maintaining the areas outside the production areas e.g. Cantine, freezers, boiler houses, compressors. You can be faced with very tight deadlines and a lot of pressure as production is key.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • From starting my apprenticeship to now I have developed in several ways. I have enhanced on skills that I already had e.g. With the handling of tools. Yet I have also learnt a lot of things that I didn't know. I had no experience with electrics and pneumatics, now and I am dealing with these nearly every day making my understanding of them a lot better.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do reallly enjoy this programme. Having the chance to learn but get payed for it at the same time is a great bonus. You come across different things every day and learn new things every day no matter how much experience you have, despite it being a very chaotic and pressured job it is a great industry to work in.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • With my programme being brand new, it has seemed abit chaotic to be honest. But any new programme that is put into place is going to have its problems at first just like anything so I have to understand that. I'm sure as time goes on the programme with smooth out and eventuallly achieve the standard which is wanted. The people behind the programme who have set it up are very professional and have set up the programme to ensure we get the education and support we need.

  • I receive a lot of support from my employer. We have a point of contact within Morrisons if we have any issues about our job/apprenticeship, someone e to speak to who can hear our problems if there is any and who can help resolve them if possible. • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • For an apprenticeship the salary is great. It increases yearly and is enough to ensure you are capable of getting anything you may need to aid with your development. The salary is sold better than most other apprenticeships, it is much higher than the minimum wage. However, with the course being run at a college away from home in large blocks the travelling to and from college during your block does depreciate your salary quite a lot.

  • Yes, ,any opportunities are available outside of work. The company is always willing to pay for you to go on extra courses which will benefit you whilst working on site. This may be things such as first aid, welding, electrical, specific equipment courses e.g. Machines and more.
