  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Aldi stock assistant - Thrown in at the deep and but with good pay and a challenging work atmosphere. Responsible for Sunday stock take and daily store stock management. Paid well per hour even as a trial but there is hard work expected in return.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Good development from colleagues and have learnt many stock taking and management skills, learnt to time manage and divide and conquer tasks better. Looking at the apprenticeship scheme where this can be re-inforced.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I particularly enjoyed the team culture and working together with colleagues of different backgrounds and experience levels, I would have preferred longer breaks to rest between long shifts but this is the nature of the work i guess. It did meet my expectations I had before starting the work.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Aldi?
  • I appreciate that Aldi remunerate their employees for the hard work that is expected of them, regular feedback is also given and team members are always involved and asked for further training. I felt valued and had been told that I could start at Aldi and would be considered on an apprentice scheme if I wished.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I felt like the programme was well organised and has obviously been fine tuned over years of trainee intakes. The working hierarchy was clearly defined and I always knew who to report to and who was in charge of support and who I would have to report to. I was a little nervous before the induction but once I met the team I felt a lot more comfortable!

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Daily meetings with my line manager and this continued on a weekly basis after the first 3 weeks. This shows a good attitude towards my support.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Outside of my line manager, I did not require support from Aldi and therefore cannot comment on the HR department or any guidance with problems

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • As mentioned previously, the salary was very good considering the position and I could actually put some money away in the bank account after travel costs and paying for lunches and other expenses. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Aldi to other trainees from a salary point of view, as long as you are willing to put in the effort in return.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Aldi seem to be involved heavily in marketing and I could see some opportunities here, there is a big focus on social media integration and the community is welcomed to post local adverts in the store.

  • 9. Would you recommend Aldi to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a friendly and rewarding place to work, I would feel comfortable working here on a permanent basis and the friendly staff really reinforce the team working mantra.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
  • Be honest in your application and show that you are willing to work hard and give your best effort to learn their methods. Realise that hard work is expected considering the good pay for employees
