  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Im a apprentice technition, usually i complete anything from simple mark ups or drawings to creating 3D models of structures

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • yes my knowledge of civil engineering as a whole has improved as has my knowledge of bridges.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • extremly, the team around me are fantiastic and constantly pushing me to do better.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Arup?
  • i feel very valued as i have said i get so much support from everybody from senior technitions to junior engineers. however i would like to recieve the same treatment as a graduate when they first enter the company.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • college and the experience you gain on the job is very good from the way they dont throw you into the deep end they allow you to develop your skills properly first. however i would like there to be more information on how to complete the NVQ i have to finish.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • my mentor at work is outstanding. he constantly takes time out of his day to help me with my work. i have found that this is one of the best things about ARUP staff.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • everybody from HR to senior managment are always keeping track of me from just simply asking if im ok in the coffee room to addending meetings to ensure i am improving properly.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • the pay as an apprentice is the best i have seen. the office is very easy to get to so travel is not an issue.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • there have been numerous events that Arup have organised free of charge. from christmas partys to different seminars or lectures on a variety of subjects everyday.

  • 9. Would you recommend Arup to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • the way i feel valued by the company and also the skills and knowledge i have gained so far is incredible. they are constantly pushing you to improve yourself whether its going for higher education or going for a better proffesional qualification.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arup?
  • research the company on the type of projects they are inviolved in. if you do get the job listen to your mentors and try to take as much in from the people around you. addend college as much as you possibly can as the work can easily get on top of you.
