  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a late trading apprentice in the commercial department, responsible for yield managing our holiday packages. This includes daily tasks such as reviewing data on sales and taking actions based off this, responding to emails and queries from our call center, getting involved in huddles, attending meetings with other departments and much more.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am learning new skills and gaining knowledge every day whilst in this role. When I started I had a 3 week training programme where I learnt the basic skills for the role, since then I have improved these skills and still feel like I learn new things each day. There are also dedicated training and development courses on an ad hoc basis that I get involved in to learn about other areas of the business.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme, the role itself is varied and not every day is the same. I move between teams so every 6 months I am learning something completely new and getting to know other areas of the business. The team I work in is fun, everyone gets on with each other and it creates a nice environment to work in. We also have a good work life balance which is good.

  • I feel valued within TUI and within my immediate team, I get good support from my colleagues at all levels and nothing is ever too much to ask. Each team has their different ways of acknowledging you on a personal level whether that is by team rewards or individual recognition. There are lots of opportunities to get involved with projects and with this you also get support from managers etc.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme has been fairly well structured, starting with an induction day to get to know the team you will be working in, to the 3 week training period once you have started the role. You get assigned mentors, buddies and then general support from your line manager and colleagues which gives a real rounded support network. The programme has been well organised despite a few teething issues as it is the first year.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Support is always available to me and it is always easy to get this support too - whether that is through my line manager or through a colleague, as our training is done in house. As there is so much support it is always easily accessible so it doesn't matter what the issue is there will always be someone who can help. People are always open and willing to help and are always taking into account your best interests.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • For an apprenticeship this role is very well paid, it covers all my costs of living despite still living at home. I commute every day via car and petrol costs etc are easily covered in my salary. It also covers all socials with work and outside work as well as everything else. The pay also increases over time so this is an added bonus.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There is always something going on outside of work, the commercial department are very social and there is usually always some sort of team event or activity in the calendar. As a company we also have voluntary opportunities to get involved with the local community. There are also sporting events etc that have been set up by colleagues that we can get involved in, such as Netball and running.
