  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Internship was in the Retail division of the bank. This involved working in a call centre planning team and managing how to best utilise their time. I was given a project to complete market research and colleague research to streamline processes.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. I was going into groups of colleagues who had worked int he bank for years, with formed opinions on how best to do things. I built in confidence and in my ability to lead a project and deliver constructive feedback.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Very much so. This was part of the lloyds scholars scheme. The shceme opens doors by giving two internship opportunities, a bank mentor and also paid internships. This combined is a unique programme offering.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Lloyds Banking Group?
  • The programme makes you feel very valued. You have access to very senior members of staff right away and they all give you plenty of opportunities to speak to them and hear about their experiences. The pay is competitive and you are given lots of additional perks through colleague recognition.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Well structured and managed well by the lloyds scholars team. I felt I was offered a bespoke programme that was tailored to me and what I wanted to achieve rather than being forced down a generic path. They have enabled me to develop significantly.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Lots of support from the beginning. I have also been through the Chartered Banker qualification paid for by the bank. There has been plenty of support in achieving this including days off for study and also work related training such as shadowing and courses.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Very supportive line management. I was also given a buddy (colleague already been through the process) and a mentor. This enabled me to have various people to speak to right away for different reasons/purposes.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Salary is competitive and does rise when offered a permanent job quite significantly, which is good. I completed my internship outside of London which was approx £10 an hour.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes - team building and team offsides are popular. However, my team were a little older than me so many wanted to go back to their families rather than go out. I imagine in the big city offices it is a lot more sociable. But team where very friendly.

  • 9. Would you recommend Lloyds Banking Group to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Very supportive organisation which genuinely promotes its talent. Understand which area you are most interested in online (it's a vast organisation and many people once they've joined move around the divisions) and spend time during your placements getting a flavour for the other areas of the bank.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Lloyds Banking Group?
  • Understand the mission on help Britain prosper, understand the division you are applying for and promote the skills you can offer. They want people who are conciencious but also are inquisitive. Determination is important and also wanting to develop the bank digitally.
