  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the Digital Attraction team within Recruitment in the HR department. The Digital Attraction team is responsible for attracting candidates to apply to work for Boots using Boots.jobs and social media. I am responsible for the planning and posting on our social media accounts.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • As part of my apprenticeship I am completing a Level4 NVQ and BTEC in Business and Administration. We also have apprenticeship development sessions where we get time to reflect on what we have learnt and learn any other skills, for example mentoring skills. On the apprenticeship I feel I have learnt organisation skills, prioritisation and communication skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I feel part of a team at Boots and have met some life long friends here, everyone is so friendly and supportive. Boots has a great culture for enjoying work; we have activities after work, such as Pilates. There are also regular pavilion events where we get to try out new products which is great.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Boots?
  • I do feel valued at Boots! I have regular one to ones with my line manager where I get regular feedback. Also the manager of the recruitment team is very good at making us feel valued by praising us and having regular huddles to congratulate us if things go well. We also have thank you cards where you get a shout out in the huddle if you do well. This definitely differs from team to team depending on what line manager you have though. In my last team I did not feel valued at all by my line manager and I just felt like an assistant picking up the work she didnt want to do.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think the programme is structured in an appropriate way. It is not the most structured of programmes, however I dont think it really needs to be as the support/training that we get is individual to suit each apprentices needs.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I do receive support from my training provider but I dont think it is very good support. Apprentices dont receive a consistent message around what needs to be done to complete the programme. For example some students being told they dont need to write up their NVQ discussions, but some do.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I recieve support from my line manager. we have regular one to ones so I can tell her what is going on in my role and ask any questions I need to. We also have 6weekly development meetings. I also have a mentor who I feel very supported by. My support is very much led by me and me asking for help but i think that is the way it should be.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Very well, at the moment I live at home so it does work for me because I dont have too many living costs. Boots also offer a discount on my bus pass. However if i was to move out i dont think i could on my wage at the moment

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes, we have lots of CSR activities that we can get involved in. Especially being on the apprenticeship we do lots of apprenticeship ambassador events which are good for developing public speaking skills. There is also Boots360 and Work Inspiration. There is a gym on site and pilates on a Monday and Tuesday.

  • 9. Would you recommend Boots to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Boots is a very friendly environment. The majority of people I have met have been really supportive and I have met some great friends. Also because Boots is such a big company there are so many opportunities for moving around and trying lots of different roles and taking different career paths without actually leaving Boots.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Boots?
  • At the assessment day just be yourself. The assessors and recruiters are really lovely and just want to see how you work within a team and hear about yourself. So try not to be nervous and shine!
