  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The job role is pretty flexible. Each day can be different but they follow the same outlines. I generally start with some Admin, catching up on emails and looking into problems raised to our ticketing system. From here I will be moving on to my own work which will likely be my own tickets. I then go and investigate what may be causing a problem and see what options are available with regards to fixing it. I end my day by filling in my diary or updating my documents.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. I do not come from a technical background and I feel that the support is crazy! I have so much room for improvement and I think that I will be in a good position coming to the end of the apprenticeship. Our IT courses are ran by QA and we attend courses in Birmingham every two months or so. I am working towards a level 3 city & guilds and by the end of this course I will become an associate technical analyst. I have been working on confrontation techniques and I feel that I can overcome situations so much easier than I could have previously.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I could not be happier, I love my job. I may not be the most technical person going but I feel that I am progressing at a good rate and getting plenty of support from the teams and people around me. I really cannot fault my company and every day i actually look forward to going to work.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by E.ON?
  • I feel that I am valued as I've never been so welcomed to a workplace before! tasks that I have been set I have achieved and had positive comments following that. I have received some great feedback from a previous team to which I got comments from my manager saying how well that I got on.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Brilliant. The introduction week we covered a lot of personality tests and a brief introduction into the production of gas and electricity. From here we done some team building exercises within the group. Each apprentice has been linked up with a mentor who is there for all means necessary. I attend a weekly apprentice catch up with managers and the other apprentices and once fortnightly I have a 1 to 1 with my manager. Team hierarchy is distributed monthly so that you can get an up to date understanding. I feel that the apprenticeship program has been well organised and I get to go through 3 different teams throughout my first year.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Training courses are very practical and can be pretty challenging. I have had to ask for another method of teaching as I feel that I wasn't understanding methods that he used. It has been good so far however. Our assessor isn't as available as I'd have hoped.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Amazing. I could not ask for anything better. Each and every person within E ON is helpful and they want the best for me. I haven't had any negative comments or been made to feel anything but part of the teams. My manager and mentor are flawless. I really cannot pick any faults with the people who are there to support me.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Yes, my salary is great. Considering I'm not as technical or as experienced as some of the others. Travel costs are £2 a day which doesn't impact my salary at all.

  • I do not attend any but I know that there's a 5 a side football team on a Thursday night.
