  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job title is a test analyst within PBB Technology services. My daily tasks involve writing test scripts, test cases and also executing tests as well. Internally I interact with people in the UK and over in India and communicate by email, phone or the internal work chat. My responsibilities include making sure work is done on time and work to the highest level to ensure work is done efficiently and effectively. I am working on GMS Release 7 and currently working on the GMS Documentation project.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have been on courses with RBS' apprentice training centre at QA. Here, I have been on courses such as windows where we learned how to use and configure windows seven and ten. I recently attended a security course which involved how to keep your computer safe. I am also doing a cisco course in a few weeks time. I use e-learning resources online to learn more about my job and role and this has allowed me to do daily jobs more confidently and effectively.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme a lot. It is good to work in a proper working environment where jobs have to be done for a reason and need to be done to the highest standard possible to support the needs for employees and customers. My team were very welcoming and made me feel wanted and always made sure I was okay and if I needed anything. It is exactly what I expected from the inductions to day-day working. I have enjoyed every minute so far and looking forward to my future working with RBS.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by NatWest?
  • I feel valued by RBS a lot. Since I came in there has always been help when I ask for it and I didn't have to wait either, the help always came quickly and promptly. From my end of year review, my Line Manager was very appreciative of my involvement so far and told me to keep to the same effort and hard work ethic that I was doing. I always get recognition for jobs I have done well and I always get made sure by other colleagues that I am involved in projects. This makes me want to continue working to my highest standard.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very organised. From the induction to daily jobs to course is all in tandem with each other. I always have knowledge transfers each week to broaden my knowledge of the department and I am always included in calls when needed to be. I get delegated tasks all the time so I am not jst sitting doing nothing all day. I get plenty time to do online learning to study my job. This therefore shows RBS apprentice scheme to be very well organised.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I get lots of support from my Apprentice mentor. I have 2/3 hour meetings every month where we discuss modules I have done. He always gives me feedback on what I can add into the modules to make it better. He also goes through the next module that I am doing and tells of the stuff that I could consider putting into it. He is always on hand to answer questions I have either through email or text. He has a very good attitude for supporting me.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer also. My line manager is also on hand when I have question and always sits down and answers them to me slowly and coarefully so I fully understand what is going on. He also set me up with another colleague in my team where she sits with me and shares knowledge also of what I have to do and what my job involves as well. They are very easy to get in contact with and great in supporting my needs.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • the salary that RBS provides there apprentices is more than what is expected. I still have enough money to buy things I want after bills and direct debits have came off my account. It great having RBSelect that allows you to be able to have things such as dental insurance, disability cover, life insurance just in case any of these matters affect you in your life. You also get many other benefits like yourofffers and reward accounts.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There is lots of voluntary events that people can attend and it does not affect your holiday entitlements. there is a gym at gogarburn that people can use during there lunchtime and after work. There is also football pitches. There are golfing communities and football ones also that people can use. there ar eplenty walks around the campus that you can do when having a break from work.

  • 9. Would you recommend NatWest to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great place to work. Plenty support when you need it and plenty of fun things to do in and around the workplace. It is a great place to meet new people and build networks which will hopefully last a lifetime. It also improves your teamworking skills, interacting skills and your working performance in general. There is also plenty opportunities in RBS to try new things such as different roles and jobs.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • Just put yourself out there, show you are willing to be a hard worker and show what you can bring to RBS as a company to improve. Make sure you are prepared when having phone/face-face interviews to know exactly how to answer when the questions are asked. Smile and be happy when interacting with the people who ar einterviewing you. Make sure your application explains exactly who you are, no point lying on it. Ensure you just be yourself.
