  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role was to stock shelves and to GAP any products that are low in stock so I could then reorder them. At some busy periods I would also be allowed to work on the tills. I would also carry out date checks and would check the stock room and shop floor for any damaged stock.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have learnt how to work better within a team and have also built up on my confidence as dealing and talking with customers on a daily basis meant that I was confident enough to speak to them and found that my interaction skills and my listening skills had also developed.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really did enjoy it as I was part of a wonderful team helped me whenever I got a bit stuck and always kept the fact that I was new to retail in mind The would support and help me when customers asked for certain products that I did not have any knowledge about.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Aldi?
  • I feel very valued by Aldi as they even offered me a job after my work experience and the line managers gave me really good feedback on how I worked within their retail environment and gave me tips to better myself while working such as pulling forward the busiest aisles of the store last.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme was really organised and simple. It was a simple case of firstly going through training and then completing some tester tasks to prepare me for my actual start. I felt they knew what they were doing and even gave me a list of the tasks I needed to do each day.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I was supported by the provider in which they kept in contact with me and Aldi to make sure everything was okay and both sides were happy and offered help or advice to me if it was needed. They were also polite and wanted me to have a enjoyable and positive experience at Aldi.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support levels received from Aldi were high, at the start of each shift a manager would ask me if I understood the task I would be doing that day and went through them with me and always asked how I was doing through the day and were always on hand to help if there was any problems.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Aldi offered to cover my travel and food costs for each day I was there, this was a real bonus as I only lived around ten minutes from the Aldi store I was based at. They would issue me with the price I paid for my lunch and travel at the end of each shift providing I showed them a receipt.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Not that I know of, there seemed to be staff days out but I was not there long enough to know a lot about them. Apart from that there is not much else that I was told about by the staff there but they did tend to go on days out together as friends which seemed nice.

  • 9. Would you recommend Aldi to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Aldi to a friend if they like being active and working in a fast paced environment with a lot of changing factors which you would have to adapt to. I also believe the managers have a view of hiring you as a permanent staff member if you meet their expectations which is a really nice surprise at the end if they do offer you a job.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
  • The application is simple and you tell them why you want to work for Aldi and in the interview stage have some background company knowledge ready to impress the interviewer. Also relax and be chilled as the interview stage is laid back and not intimidating as you may think.
