I am an apprentice IT technician, who mainly deals with first line support tickets. I usually respond to tickets as they come in and fix them there and then.
I have learnt a lot during my apprenticeship, how to image a computer and how to efficiently keep IT suites running. I also I built a lot of knowledge on fixing printers. I have nearly completed a Level 2 Hardware and Networking apprenticeship, this has been through PETA LTD.
I work with a very supportive staff team, which makes my job fun. No day is the same is what I like and I do really enjoy coming to work each day.
I do get appreciation from staff a lot which makes me feel good, because I know I am doing the right thing. I have integrated an online room booking system for the site which went down well.
It's very well organised, from the training days and the induction I had on the beginning. The meetings that the assessor comes in for help me to make sure my work is good and that I will be able to send it off. I have had quite a few training days of which helped build on existing knowledge.
I receive a lot of support, only when I really need it though. I have my assessor come in every 6 weeks to check up on me and also see what work I have done on my portfolio. I enjoy working my way through it because it also develops my knowledge when I have to search up the question learning new things.
I don't ask for much support very often, but when I do I know there's a big team of people willing to help me. I also have a lot of help from the other staff in my department who will help out on things I struggle on.
I don't agree on how much the government pay apprentices. Being on a low income of £3.50 an hour is very hard to live on. The cost of living is rising and I don't feel like all apprentices are paid enough for what they do. Especially when you have to pay to run a car to get to work.
We usually go down the pub after work every week or even play a sport for an hour after school. Outside of work, I like to do more work to earn more money, such as gardening, and working at a family business. I also partake in going to the gym sometimes which is good to keep myself in an active mindset.
Yes
I work recommend to a friend because the apprenticeships train you on things that you might have not know and also it's great for meeting new people.
Write a very good, and detailed application on which the employer can read and already know you before meeting you. Ask a lot of questions and make yourself interested.
