  • Job Title: Trainee Dairy Technologist Objective: Complete placements in the various departments within my company gaining valuable experience and knowledge to provide a well rounded knowledge of onsite processes. Responsibilities: Work with department operators operating the plant and completing daily tasks.

  • Qualifications: Haccp and Health and Safety Internal training: Lean awareness Professional skills: Greater understanding on procedures, improved ability to multi-task and prioritise tasks, greater confidence within myself

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The Eden programme provides a once in a lifetime experience, students are given the opportunity to work in all departments on site to allow them to gain new skills and create valuable relationships with colleagues throughout the site. At college students build friendships with people from all walks of life, the college provides an operating hall filled with various equipment you might encouter whilst in the dairy industry. Lecturers are available face to face and via email when at site so you are never left feeling unsupported. Depending on where you are located in the country there may be travelling to and from site/college this can become tiring and home life may suffer.

  • Arla encourage my progression on site and at college. Students are allocated a mentor to support students needs.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Student block timetables are provided in advance to allow site to plan placements to match subjects learnt at college. Lecturers are flexible with lessons should they not suit the majority of students.

  • Arla Foods have provided a valuable opportunity to study whilst working in the dairy industry, an opportunity that does not come round very often. Sites provide onsite support and able to accomodate training needs.

  • Arla Foods have provided a valuable opportunity to study whilst working in the dairy industry, an opportunity that does not come round very often. Sites provide onsite support and able to accomodate training needs.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Travel and accommodation expenses are covered. There is a wage increment each year. Sites vary on shift pattern i.e. a student on days will receive the same wage as a student on shift which is not equal. There is very large differences in salaries between students, yet all have the same responsibilities, this is slightly demoralising.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Students are part of the Society of Dairy Technology paid for by the employer. Students are offered the opportunity to support at Cheese shows if site allows. Reaseheath college offer student fun days and sports activities.

  • Yes

  • Arla Foods is fair to all employees and provides a safe working environment, employee welfare is considered and support is available if requested.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arla Foods?
  • Take advantage of learning opportunities. Show willingness to learn and flexibility to tasks expected to carry out. Be open to what you wish to take from the role, you might be surprised at what training you are offered! Arla Foods encourages career progression.
