  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work on the HMRC account within Capgemini and specifically in the corporation tax live services team. When the client is experiencing a problem they will log a call and then this will arrive with our team, we will then investigate the problem for the client.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I have developed my SQL coding knowledge significantly. I could code in SQL before I started the programme, however I feel that my SQL coding has improved dramatically. Also my soft skills have improved such as communication via email and presentation. These skills will help me in the long run if I ever move on to other roles in the future.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying the programme which I am on because I like the experience of having a day to day job as well as studying for a degree at the same time. There is never a time on the programme where I am struggling for things to do, this makes the programme much more enjoyable, and makes you feel valued by the company.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Capgemini?
  • I feel valued by Capgemini because they want their apprentices to succeed within the company. To help the apprentices enter the company smoothly and bond with the employees they try to get us well known around the departments where we are working. Getting a free degree out of the programme also makes me feel valued because they clearly believe that I am the right person for the company to employ.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured from a Capgemini point of view. I have settled into the company very well, and therefore feel like I have been here for a long time. However, the university side of the programme could have been organised better. This is because not much information has been given about module exams and the online lectures could be more beneficial. Overall I think the programme is very well put together and I am really enjoying my time on it.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Aston University has supplied a mentor so that they can go through skills which are essential to obtain within a works environment. I receive soft skills training from my skills coach which I am finding useful and these skills will not only help me with my current role, however also other roles which I pursue in the future.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received a lot of support from my team so that I can get into my role deeper. This is through SQL training and also breaking down calls so that they can be investigated more thoroughly. I feel that my SQL knowledge has significantly increased due to the training which has been provided. I can now break down calls and investigate them as a team which is key within the department which I am working.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary which I am on at the moment is very good, I can meet all of the bills which I have to pay which also shows that Capgemini value me as an apprentice. This salary which I am on at the moment isn’t set in stone and can change in the pay reviews we have every quarter which is a huge motivator for me.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are opportunities outside of work as Capgemini encourage us to go to different events to promote the apprentice scheme. There are fun events as well which we are encouraged to get involved with such as half marathons, golf days etc. After all of this I still have free time so that I can keep my sports to a high standard and spending time with family.

  • 9. Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Capgemini to a friend because they are a fantastic company and look after their employees very well. I would say that if you are not a fan of IT this is the wrong company, however there are roles out there within Capgemini which are not purely IT based, therefore making the Capgemini apprentice scheme great for everyone.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
  • For others applying for Capgemini, I would advise to be yourself at all times. They employ you as a person, not the skills which you have. The build-up on skills will come after you have secured a place as Capgemini are a people company. If you are having to present to secure a role, make sure that you practise the presentation so that you have something to back up your personality.
