  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to check new code is working and test web pages and applications. I also write a small amount of code.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a new programming language php and have been part of a small team working on a half million pound project. So have learnt management and timing skills that come with that.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It is interesting as it's an experience of the real world and I am treated like a proper adult even though people have been there for many years and are alot older than me. I am also learning lots of skills that will be beneficial to me for the rest of my working life.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Southeastern Railway?
  • I am valued as I am part of a small team and so get to see the benefits of what we do every day. Which I feel is alot better than working in a large team and not getting to see the results of your work.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very organized, to the point that there are lots of deadlines and it can sometimes be quite stressful. However, not too stressful that I no longer enjoy it.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I spent the first couple of months training and learning, then becoming familiar with the stock and assets. This gave me a real appreciation of the business.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Working in a small team means that I work very directly with my manager and other senior managers and so recieve a lot of support through that. Also we have an open door policy where we can also speak to managers about issues.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Still being at uni me as that my salary covers most of my costs and I don't pay for things such as council tax. However, I am aslo trying to save alot this year, so I am budgeting a little to make the most of my earnings.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Work is quite demanding and so most of my free time is spent doing household chores or seeing friends

  • 9. Would you recommend Southeastern Railway to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Because the company is a great company to work for. And I've learnt more practical skills this year than I would say I have in the last 2 years at uni


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Southeastern Railway?
  • Apply for something you really enjoy as it make it so much better. And don't be afraid to apply to something even if you don't think you meet the requirements, they may make an allowance
