  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Everyday, I answer phone calls from doctors that are from different hospitals and answer any queries they may have. Also, I take part in a lot of administration work such as filing any paperwork, printing out forms and filling out forms. There is computer work involved such as responding to important emails.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have improved on my communication skills. I feel as though I am better at talking to people on the phone and my confidence have improved. I can now get my point across easily and I am now more organised with the paperwork. I always fill the forms in before the deadlines.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by NHS Black Country Apprenticeship Academy?
  • I feel really valued since the day I started because they made me feel welcome on the first day. The NHS black Country apprentiship academy made sure I was doing well. They checked upon me regularly and we're on standby if I needed them. I automatically felt at home when I was there.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is quite organised. No time is wasted and everyone knows what they are doing and when they should be doing it. The structure is very simple. There are many break times which are very sufficient and help me regain a bit of energy during the day. I would not change the structure of the programme.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The training provider gives me too much support. Sometimes I feel like I am not doing as much as I should be. But I find their support very helpful and it gives me confidence in knowing that I am doing the job as well as I should be. They should probably support me less though.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer does not give me enough support because they leave it all to the training provider. If my employer helped me more then I would know whether or not the job is being done well. I feel as though they do not take charge enough and they tend not to get involved.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary meets my costs very well. I do not have any problems with the salary. It is the standard salary that we all expect to get and I am not much of a spender so it always me my costs. Most of the time there is money to spare.I think the salary is absolutely fine.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are so many opportunities out of work. I can progress to other hospitals or other NHS related places. The apprenticeship is so broad that it can lead to many places including gp surgeries and even paramedics. I know many people who have used the opportunities to progress and get to high ranks such as manager.

  • 9. Would you recommend NHS Black Country Apprenticeship Academy to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I think that it is a great way to kick start a career in the certain area they would like to go in to. Especially if they like doing a certain thing such as pharmacy then they should definitely begin their career with an apprenticeship in order to gain the skills and knowledge of a pharmacist.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS Black Country Apprenticeship Academy?
  • The advice that I would like to give to them is to look at websites in the area they would like to go into. Also they should ask teachers or get some leaflets. The should ask people who have tried an apprenticeship because they know what it is like firsthand as they have already done it.
