  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Helping out doing work experience in a school meant that I could get an insight into modern teaching practices whilst also getting an idea of the preparation teachers need.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • There was a lot of need for communication in order for teachers to plan effectively within the year group across all ability levels. It was very useful to gain planning skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It was great as there were students who I could help and be a mentor to them to help them understand things in a new way. The staff were also friendly and supportive.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Round Diamond Primary School?
  • There was a lot of value placed upon everyone who helps out students, not only paid staff but helpers as well. It was welcomed to have help in the class and was rewarding to help both students and staff.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It was structured in class for me to see it taking place but my role was a more supplementary role so that I could fit into the planned activities and help out.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • What needed to be done was explained well and targets were laid out for activities so it was easy to see how we could improve the students. There were talks at break times of what would follow.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There was plenty of support on hand so that questions could be asked if need be. I was never left unaccompanied whilst I was helping out and this was very useful.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Transport wasn't an issue of payment for me but no subsidies were given for meals. The school does now offer paid internships but this was not available for me.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There were staff events but I was not a part of these. There was, however, a fete and school shows going on at the time I was there that I could watch after working hours.

  • 9. Would you recommend Round Diamond Primary School to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It was an enjoyable experience, I met lots of lovely people and have learnt a lot from the experience. It gives a good insight into an academic profession, should I wish to pursue this career path.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Round Diamond Primary School?
  • Make sure you are always eager to help out and don't sit back because you have less knowledge. Teachers welcome the feedback and new ways of thinking. It may be that a teacher feels they can ask you about the effectiveness of a learning aid they have made.
