It involved getting to know the business and how it operates in a competitive environment. Once a basic 'knowledge check' was done and I understood the companies ethos my role was to try and deliver that in the store i.e. Putting "every customer first" to try and deliver the best customer service possible ensuring repeat business.
I definitely learnt a lot of new skills - mainly around responsibility and decision making. I was given quite a lot of autonomy and time to get to know the store and it's customers and I think this prepared me for my future career
I really enjoyed the programme as the team where friendly and seemed to embrace me coming into the company. I think this is really important as I really felt a part of something much bigger and had skills and experience to offer in return. I know people who really haven't enjoyed their and often it is down to other colleagues rather than the company.
I felt really valued and part of a big happy team delivering the best customer service we can.
It was well structured with a development plan but I am quite organised and I would often look for more opportunities and try to develop these myself and then discuss with my team.
An adequate amount of training given the role and responsibility I had. I believe it was enough.
They were really supportive and approachable. I was encouraged to contribute and attend meetings with them gaining a much wider knowledge base.
Personally I did it for the experience rather than the money as I seee the added value being the experience. The money however was fair and appropriate that I was paid.
There was limited opportunity outside of work and these were only run by the social fund - which was paid for and funded by the company. Work wise outside the company - absolutely no opportunities.
Yes
As the biggest retailer in the country I think they are a great place to start if you want a career in retail. They are approachable and supportive and I had a really good experience. The extra value in doing something like this can't be measured in just money and is definately worth doing.
Have a good read of the company, look at their oversea operations, look at the challenges facing them including the recent accounting scandal. It all shows a wider knowledge base and understanding
