1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
I have been undertaking work exerpience for the Personal support unit for almost a year now - I attend court with litigants in person and those who cannot afford a solicitor. I can help give tips on how to fill out court forms, file proceedings, advising of the court procedure, practical experience and it is an extremely rewarding experience.
2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have learnt Invaluable skills from this placement. It has taught me communication skills, further interpersonal skills, leadership abilities and information about the whole court process. It has generally improved my whole skill set and it has definitely made me a much more employable candidate.
3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
It the most rewarding experience I have ever undertaken - it would be a dream to have a role similar to this for the rest of my career. It is extremely rewarding to be able to help individuals in all walks of life, who without your help may not be able to undertake these proceedings.
4. How valued do you feel by Personal Support Unit?
I do feel extremely valued. I was given tasks from day one similar to all other workers and I do feel that the work I undertake has been to an exceptional standard and I am pleased with how my relationship has developed with the charity.
5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
I do feel that it is quite well organised but there could be a little more structure and the rota system definitely could be improved.
6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
I received full training before undertaking any work and I have offered regular updates to my knowledge.
6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
My supervisors are excellent. They are always there to offer support and I do feel that I can ask any questions if I am unsure.
7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
This has been a voluntary placement. Although i am not paid I do feel that the experience will be invaluable during my legal career
8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
Yes my supervisor has put me in to contact with further employees regarding other job opportunities and interviews, which has been an added bonus.
9. Would you recommend Personal Support Unit to a friend?
It honestly has been an excellent and extremely rewarding experience. I get to work for an excellent charity which are helping the lives of many whole also developing exceptional experience and skills via this placement.
10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Personal Support Unit?
I would apply for everything that you are interested in - even if you think that you won't get it because every opportunity really could lead to something.
