Creative Writer/Support Worker Review

Creative Writer/Workshop Supporter for Hijinx Theatre Company's Odyssey program, meeting every Monday night, creating small scenes/pieces of writing tailored to the requirements of the actors involved, considering the disabilities of the actors under my own initiative

I have learnt how to trust myself in a new environment and it has given me skills of how to understand the needs and communication of those with disabilities and those without disabilities

I am given new challenges to create scripts to fit those with disabilities and what their difficulties can be with the written word to remember. I feel great that I am able to make friends and that I can use my degree to assist others

I was getting appreciation from the Outreach Officer from Hijinx Theatre as he was the one running the workshops on a Monday night. It was great to see how the group appreciated my input.

The sessions were organised enough for us to understand what we're doing whilst building an improvised script to be performed

The support I get from GO Wales is great because they check in to see how I'm doing on the placement and whether I'm getting the right support for my own learning disability

The support I got from the Outreach Officer with Hijinx Theatre was excellent. He would check that I knew what was asked of me and that I was comfortable with things I was asked to do.

Hijinx Theatre are a welcoming group and are accepting for anyone and everyone. I couldn't imagine a better team to work with

Be prepared to throw yourself into the deep end, but once you're there you'll understand why the participants love the Odyssey program so much
