I did work experience in a solicitors office, Tully & co. The experience was enlightening as I gained insight into all aspects of a solicitors job, not just in the office, but in the bar library and courts as well.
I learnt how to hold myself in different court settings, as different situations required different behaviour. I learnt good practise in an office, how to be consistent and concise. I learnt how to get on with many different members in the office; the secretary; the paralegals; the solicitors; the barristers; the partners.
I really enjoyed my programme is I felt like everyone really wanted to help me understand what it was to pursue a law career. They went out of their way to show me what their jobs entailed, rather than just making me act as free labour in the office.
I felt very valued as I was asked to come back to work as paid help, when I was off in summer.
My programme was very well structured as I was given time with every individual in the office. I was never left without anything to do as they had always prepared work for me.
those that trained me were highly supportive in their training.
The partner I was working most closely with was extremely supportive thoughtout the whole work experience.
I was not paid as that was a stipulation of my work experience.
I was given a great opportunity of gaining paid work with the company after I had completed my work experience.
Yes
I thought this was the best at way for anyone considering a law career to gain insight into what it was truly like.
Always ask for more questions and if you don't understand something, never be afraid to ask. You're experience will be a lot fuller if you ask questions.
