  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am an Apprentice Engineering Technician and my job is to help produce engineering drawings to be used in the design and construction of a structure.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt to use the CAD software Microstation and other work based skills as well as currently working towards a BTEC Level 3 in Engineering and an NVQ.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme very much as it allows me to learn while i work picking up lots of new skills and keeping my brain active.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Arup?
  • I feel very valued by Arup and recieve recognition verbally from colleagues and in team wide emails.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is well organised and there is always lots of support available if required.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I recieve lots of support from my training provider as they visit every six weeks to check up on how i am getting on.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I recieve as much support as i require from my employer and they are always looking for ways to help me develop further.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary pack compared to other apprenticeships is good, however, i feel that apprentices are slighlty underpaid as a whole as we are required to work a full days work and then complete a large amount of college work outside of working hours.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are always many events being advertised in company wide emails with a variety of talks and social avtivities.

  • 9. Would you recommend Arup to a friend?
  • Yes

  • They are a very proffessional organisation that are dedicated to helping apprentices thrive and develop and are very supportive.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arup?
  • Make sure that you do your research into what the different disciplines offered entail as they often involve lots of different styles of design so it is best to apply for the role that interests you most.
