  • Job Title is 21CN HE Fibre Planning, job role includes planning new fibre cables into the core network, ceasing cancelled orders and providing Y Codes for new building.

  • Currently on a BTECH in IT Systems and Principles, also completed a NVQ level 3.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy learning new things, I didn't have a great deal of IT experience so almost starting from scratch. Its good to see how our work impacts our customers.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BT?
  • Yes, BT make it very clear how valued apprentices are and make plenty of provision for us, we are very well supported by various apprentice networks.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Academic structure of apprenticeship done well, task delegation done well, there are many job roles and we get the chance to be on various teams which is good for our development, although changing business needs often interferes with the running of rotations.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We receive a lot of support by our tutors at college, separate BT manager helps with this. We all have apprentice coaches and reviews to track performance

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We have regular one to ones to discuss matters as well as apprentice roundtables. We also have quarterly apprentice development calls as well as core development training packages.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Salary very well meets living costs for our age. Travel into work is fairly cheap, on a much higher wage in comparison to other apprentices, pay rises twice a year is a bonus

  • Yes there are always events been advised for people to attend such as What Next and trips to important sites.

  • Yes

  • Good future prospects, good pay, reputable company with a strong future


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • Assessment days can be very daunting but be confident and give honest answers (don't come across as a robot, be yourself) think of transferable skills you have.
