  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a business apprentice at Leonardo. This role involves rotating around three departments working in each for three months. These departments are manufacturing & supply chain, procurement and commercial. This has given me a broad understanding of the business and I have learnt a lot about each department through tasks I have carried out day to day. This ranges from contacting suppliers or customers to gathering data for internal and external reports.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • As part of the apprenticeship I am carrying out a HNC in Business and a SVQ in Business Administration. These courses have given me a greater understanding of the wider business world as well as tasks I have carried out at work. I have also attended several internal training courses which have aided me in day to day tasks I may be carrying out. I also feel that my communication and presentation skills have improved while I have been working here.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Leonardo?
  • I feel very valued by Leonardo. I have a quarterly review with the apprentice manager, along with whichever manager I am working with. This allows me to gain feedback and gain appreciation which keeps me motivated and makes me feel valued. Also the work I am given is all important work and contributes to the teams and the business` goals.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well structured as I always feel that I am supported and have someone to take any concerns to, whether it be the apprentice team or another employee. I am often invited to attend a wide range of training events, outwith our qualifications which can benefit me in my role. The rotations are well planned out, but are also flexible in giving me a voice of what I want to do or see in the business.

  • 9. Would you recommend Leonardo to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Leonardo is a very enjoyable place to work with friendly employees and lots of opportunities for future progression. The extra curricular activities are enjoyable as well and the salary is very competitive.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Leonardo?
  • The application process is easy to follow, with a test following the initial application. If successful an assessment day follows, with group tasks, an interview and a presentation. It is important to be prepared for this. On the day there is a number of managers that attend and I would recommend not being shy, as you are always being assessed (even during breaks), and to ask as many questions as possible throughout the day to find out more information about the company.
