  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am an ethernet Repair analyst, I carry out fault diagnostics and decide whether the fault is a customer issue, a chassis issue or an issue with the fibre. I then have to decide whether to send engineers out to site and build the tasks.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my communication skills as I am regularly in contact with customers. I have also learnt new skills and how to use different software which enables me to do the job.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy working with my team and have been put onto shift early mean I now work 3 12hour days a week which I much prefer and it gives me more days off to complete my NVQ work. I think BT is a good company to work for and offer good opportunities.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BT?
  • I feel a valued member of the team at BT and my manager regularly lets me know how I am getting on as well as giving me recognition when I have done well. Everybody in my team in extremely helpful and always offers help if I need it.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is well structured and my apprentice coach Lee keeps me updated on how well I am doing as well as setting me work to complete. We have meetings regularly to discuss performance and how I am getting on, and if I have any issues. He provides support and information when I need it.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager gives me support and allows me time to have meetings with my apprentice coach. The team I am in is full of people who can offer support and guidance should I need it and all of them are more than willing to help.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary is good for an apprentice, I have to travel an hour to work everyday and I have managed ok. The pay soon rises and it then makes things a little easier.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I have 3 volunteer days available to use during my apprenticeship. I have started to look into doing some volunteering days at a local school and I am currently in the process of trying to organise thise.

  • 9. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I think BT is a good company to work for and provides plenty of opportunities. I feel that so far I have been supported well and provided with all the information I need to progress in my job and complete my apprenticeship. I already feel a valued member of the team.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • The application process can be quite long but its worth it, once I got the job I had to attend training in Yarnfeild which I found useful as it gave me an overview of the business and the different parts. It was also a good chance to meet new people and learn what opportunites were available.
