  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am on an intermediate apprenticeship in mechanical engineering. On a day to day basic I work on an assembly line assembling a range of different types of turbo charges with their correct components. internally the daily interactions I have are either with other team mates or with team leaders and managers. Interactions I have externally are when external companies are being shown around the department so we have a chat with them so they can get a feel for the place.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I will come out with a NVQ level 2 in mechanical engineering. External courses which I have been involved in is a Health and Safety course. internally courses include Six sigma training and keizan training.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy working with the team I am with and the company treats us well. I have enjoyed my time at the company and the culture here is outstanding.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Cummins?
  • I feel we are all very welcomed and appreciated by the Apprentice managers and also by the shop floor managers. I got involved in a green power car event which entailed in building a green power car and did a weekend away down south were the finished product was raced.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the induction and training was very well organised as we received a training plan of what we will be doing throughout the whole apprenticeship. The support received off the apprenticeship management was excellent. We had 6 weekly meeting which was set up where I had a one to one with either of the managers where I could air out any concerns or enquires I had

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • If we need a hand with any of our work or guidence with any problems wether it be at home or at work the apprenticeship leaders are both very helpful. They will happily take time out of there day to try sort any problems we have.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We recieve a lot of support if needed by both the manager at this company. If we have any problems at any time of day we can go to the office and tell them about it.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary packet which we recieve for this company is very good to say that we are still apprentices, it allows me to go on holidays and buy and run cars. it also funds nights out.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are many different types of company events available for me to go on for example the greenpower car event whch i went on. Also there are many different community envolvement days which i also get involved in.

  • 9. Would you recommend Cummins to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a good company to work for with very many opertunities to further ourself. Also the salary at cummins is very good for both young students and mature students.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cummins?
  • I would advise anyone thats wanting to apply here to have a genunine interest in engineerinh and to express this in the interview stage. Also if they have any type of experience in the engineering field it will help them alot.
