  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job titles is an advanced apprentice. My daily tasks at the moment can vary depending on what team I'm on but currently I am working on the WBC team doing pre integration work. I have to interact with various other people in the WBC team every day In order to complete my work correctly.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have become much more technical working with various different computer programs. Also my knowledge of telecommunications and networks has increased a lot due to training on and off site and also training on the job.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the apprentice programme that I am on. in fact I have regularly recommended it to friends and family because of how much I do enjoy it. I would say the most enjoyable part is learning new pieces of work and knowing that you can work independently on that particular project.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BT?
  • I feel like I am a valued member within BT, my manager regularly has meetings with me to ask about my progression and to see if there is anything I need. Also I have been given many responsibility's in various different projects since I have been at BT.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • in the first year it had little to no structure but since we have had a new manager who was an apprentice himself it has become a lot more well organised. this includes apprentice's rotating every 6 months to allow them to see various different teams and projects.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • we have regular 12 week reviews to see how we are performing in out job role, NVQ work and how offsite training was going. this is useful because your assessor can help you with any NVQ you may be stuck on and also advise you on anything to do with work.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • well if you say my employer is my manager then a lot of support because he regularly has meetings with me. Also my assessor with have meetings with me every 12 weeks and regular email conversations.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I feel the salary for a young apprentice is adequate but that is only because as a 19 year old I have very little financial commitment. I think once we assimilate onto a c3 wage this is when ill be in a position to have a house of my own and judge the salary better then.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • yes we regularly get emails inviting us down to see various different BT sites. we also get the opportunity to go out on team building days that have been organised by our line manager.

  • 9. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel it is a great place to work with loads of different things for an employee to learn. I would definitely recommend BT.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • be confident, do research about the company before hand so you have a good knowledge on what BT are involved in and if you get the opportunity before the interview to come in and sit with members of staff to see what they do, definitely take it.
