  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My current job title is Hosted Lead 2 Cash Voice Specialist and deal with a product called 'Centrex'. This is software built for call centres and enables the user to call over the IP network as well as other features. At the moment, I am writing procedures for the exception types that we have to ensure all team members are working to the same process.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have gained another qualification and when I complete my apprenticeship I will have another level 3. I have grown as a person also by constantly improving my professionalism.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the work and my team - the work constantly challenges me and makes me think, this is what I need in my day to day role. My BT apprenticeship exceeded my expectations due to the fact there are so many opportunities.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BT?
  • I have just received my annual APR review from my manager and he has granted me a VG (very good). I am extremely pleased with this result as I have worked very hard to be a valued member of the team and the management team make sure I am aware of my progress.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The education side of the course is structured, but us (as apprentices) are not entirely sure the framework - this could be made clearer or notes on where to find this information. There isn't a team hierarchy in my team. It does not matter how long you have been there providing you complete your work to the standard expected.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My apprentice coach is constantly giving me hints and tips of how to improve my work and he is always available if I ever need any help. The operational side are also very supportive and try to offer as much help as needed.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager has been very helpful and supportive over the last few months. There has been high tensions as our work has moved to Manchester so the transition has been difficult, but we know where the support is if we ever need it.

    9/10

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • At the moment, my salary does not meet costs as I have just moved out and I am supporting a household on my salary. I do understand that my salary is a lot higher than most apprentices and I am very grateful of my salary.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are many voluntary initiatives but they are mainly through 'BT Today' and the apprenticeship team. As for team events, we occasionally spend time as a team outside work but this does not happen often as some members do not want a social life with their team outside of working hours.

  • 9. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • BT is a wonderful company to work for with great career prospects. I am proud to work for BT and even initiatives like the ShareSave Scheme you would not find in other companies.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • I would say to be confident and believe in yourself. If you have confidence in yourself and faith in the work you complete, BT will recognise this. For the assessment days, I think you should be yourself and be prepared! Swat up on BT and their policies, its only right they take on people with a genuine interest in BT and their career.
