  • I am a network engineer higher apprentice working in 3rd line Technical Services monitoring BT's network and giving support to 2nd line support

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt my skills in various different ways. from university, to on the job training, to self study. Which is a very good mix to have.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The apprenticeship higher program is very good, In comparison to the university option, I am in a much better situation because I know have a job and a degree with no loan

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BT?
  • I feel very valued, the way BT cares for their employees is very detailed and caring. And if there is ever a problem it is always sorted.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure changed whilst I was in the program, however I believe that change was for the best to continuously improve the programme

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • From a training provider point of view, I have come out of the program with an NVQ and a degree, and if we ever have problems it is always looked at.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As much support as needed. If I need some additional training BT are happy to fund that, so it is very good.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • the pay is lovely, anything is better than paying to go to university with no income so this is a big advantage.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • BT social community is great, theres always outside events going on so its not just work work work all the time.

  • 9. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • BT has given me a great start to a career and I now have the knowledge and qualifications to progress further.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • Go in head first, the more you put into it the more you will get out. If you sit there all day and not speak to anyone you will not gain much out of it. But if you actively go pester people they are always willing to teach and then you get more out of it.
