  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job title is Audit Trainee. This role is based in East Anglia. Typically, on a day to day basis, I'm working as an Audit Assistant, either at a clients site or from the office, completing audit testing, as part of a wider Audit Team.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Absolutely. Since I started in September 2016, I feel like I've learnt new skills and developed my existing ones. In particular, I feel like my ability to communicate on a daily basis with clients and colleagues has improved to a great extent, since this is a significant part of my day to day job.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I definitely enjoy the School Leaver Programme I'm on at BDO. It's met my expectations, and exceeded them, because of the reasons I've given in answer to the questions below.

    9/10

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BDO?
  • From the day I started, every member of staff at my office made me feel really welcome at BDO. The fact that I was a School Leaver trainee made no difference to Seniors, Managers etc. and they were all very welcoming.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • There is a structure to the programme, which all school leavers will follow. However, since my office in East Anglia is not very centrally based, there's flexibility within the programme.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • You receive as much support as you want. Particularly if you're willing to email your training manager / tutor, they've always been relatively quick at answering any questions I have.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Similar to the above question, I've received as much support as I've needed / wanted. I often work with my personal manager, and so it's easy to bring up any issues that I'm having with them - they've always been pro-active in finding solutions to these.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • For me, living at home still, the salary meets all my costs fine. I'm sure you could also move out on a School Leaver salary, but this isn't something I've done.

    8/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Due to the office I work in not being as large as some other BDO offices, there aren't as many out of work opportunities as there are at other offices. Having said that, I've still been to 6/7 events since I started.

    6/10

  • 9. Would you recommend BDO to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • You get practical work experience in a friendly environment whilst also gaining a great qualification - so I'd recommend BDO to anyone who knows they want to go into Accountancy.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BDO?
  • Just be yourself - you work in teams a lot at work, so just be yourself and show why you're a good team player.
