  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Completing little tasks for the trainee solicitors e.g. researching projects, proof-reading documents, drafting documents and talking to departments.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my communication, networking and researching skills for example being introduced to websites such as Companies house. Reflective skills were also of use during the group tasks. Maybe a reflective sheet or session at the end of the placement just to summarise what we have learnt.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed doing the tasks and networking and the group exercises. However I felt that the programme could be longer for example being two weeks instead of one, so participants get a real insight into the different departments as one day in each department did not satisfy my curiosity for such a prestigious firm such as Pinsent Masons.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Pinsent Masons?
  • I think I was valued in some departments more than others, maybe due to the nature of the tasks set. However I felt that it was quite nice to be introduced to the department and I felt very welcomed.

    5/10

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well organised. However more time could be spent on group exercises so the participants have more chances to interact more with each other and benefit from each other.

    8/10

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I did receive support and advice was given by several mentors during tasks which was helpful. However to make it more inclusive for example the mentors and the work experience students could go to lunch together or have an ice-breaker session to get to know the mentors more and network with them. More support could be given to the social aspect of being at the firm.

  • 9. Would you recommend Pinsent Masons to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Gives a glimpse into a well known firm. Good work experience and advice from mentors. A diverse firm which understands the importance of achieving a balance of good grades, work experience and personal interests. Also a range of people from different backgrounds and professions you can network with and meet which is always interesting.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons?
  • Pinsent Masons have a very equal opportunity outlook so don't be afraid to apply. Engage as much as possible with the people at the firm as there is limited time on the placement (only being a week) so take advantage of any opportunity you can whilst on placement. Everybody is friendly and willing to help.
