  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role at Vauxhall motors is the Health & Safety apprentice. In my day to day tasks I do things such as write daily reports, audit areas and carry out Safety Observation Tours. I have daily interactions with all of my team members including my boss and my colleagues. We also have weekly meetings to review our process. I have many responsibilities and projects such as running the safety training database which holds all safety training throughout the plant in which I have to make sure people are trained and ensure they have had refresher courses when needed.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Within my role at Vauxhall I have developed many new skills. One skill in particular would be my internal networking skills as I have met many knew people within the business and have many connections externally also. I am booked onto two separate Health & Safety courses which I will be attending in London. These are the IOSH and IEMA course to enhance my skills in Health & Safety and Environmental Safety. I feel like I have learnt a lot coming to Vauxhall as I came as a school leaver this is my first job and I have learnt many knew things in the workplace and have grown and developed as a person.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my programme at Vauxhall because I have a great team of people around me who support me in my work and push me to strive in the job that I do. I think that the team I am in works very well and effectively because I always have tasks to complete and if I finish my tasks I feel that I can approach my team and ask if there is any other items that they would like me to complete. The apprenticeship at Vauxhall has excelled my expectations as it has taught me many new things and allowed me to have new experiences.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Stellantis?
  • At Vauxhall I feel valued within my role because I always get feedback on the work I do, whether it's from my boss or someone in a different department I feel like I am always fairly reviewed on the work I have done. If I have excelled in a piece of work I will be praised for it. I have won competitions that have gone out in communication briefs which shows that I am valued and being rewarded for my efforts. Whenever my team has a project or task I feel that I am fully involved and my opinions are noticed and valued within discussions.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The organisation of my programme can be faulted at times as the we do not have anyone who looks after apprentices in our building. This means that sometimes if we need meetings with regards to our apprenticeship we have to travel to talk to them. I think the introduction to Vauxhall as a whole was very good as it let us get to know the company very quickly and get straight into our job roles. Task delegation is very good within my team because I can always ensure I have work to do and tasks delegated are always fair precise.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My tutor at college is very good. They come to see me once a month to review how I am progressing and have a general chat about how I am getting on. However my internal advisors I do not always have the best contact with. I feel like if I had a problem I could go to any member of my team or my college tutor to talk to them and I have faith that they would help me resolve any problems. I enjoy all training I receive as it helps me develop my skills within the workplace.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?

My HR team at Vauxhall are all very nice and approachable and whenever I have had questions they have always solved them and supported me in any way they could.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary at Vauxhall is very good for an apprenticeship. Coming to Vauxhall as a school leaver the wage I am on is very sufficient for my needs paying for travel costs to work and food etc. I have relatively low costs being young so the wage that I receive from Vauxhall exceeds my costs meaning I can save money for anything that I many want to purchase.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • As Vauxhall is such a large company there is always opportunity's and activities to attend outside of work. For example there is an upcoming even in which people from work have a discounted rate at a go karting track where they have booked a time so that all colleagues can go together and race. Also as Vauxhall sponsors the home nations there is always many opportunities' to attend football matches and win tickets to these events. • 9. Would you recommend Stellantis to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend my company to a friend because I believe it is a great place to work as it has great values and a family style. While at work you always feel welcomed and always feel like you are involved and that you are inputting to the company with the work that you are doing. Also the training and wages you receive are amazing and the training will build you a great portfolio for future opportunities'.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Stellantis?
  • The tips I would give to anyone applying to Vauxhall would be to be confident in yourself as the interview process is tough and doing a presentation on yourself will really show your true character. When doing the team building exercises make sure you put yourself forward to let the assessors know that you are engaged and really putting yourself forward in decisions to show off your skills and knowledge
