  • I applied for work experience at the end of 2016 for Marks & Spencer as it was my local supermarket and they informed me that the earliest opportunity for me was early 2017 due to the christmas period. on a day to day basis i was shown around the store, how to use a till and how to restock and order items in.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Marks & Spencer?
  • i felt fairly valued by Marks and Spencer because they took me on and looked after me as i showed interest in their company. I was given the advice and help and experience in the store i wanted too and they ensured i had work and was kept busy and happy too.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • fairly well organised. It could not be planned as well if staff were sick however other procedures and plans were put in place. One day i was working with a certain member of staff they were ill and i was asked what i would like to do instead so i worked on the customer service desk again as i enjoyed this.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • i was not paid for my work experience which was expected. I did however receive a £10 store voucher which was really nice of the store/store manager. Looking at the job prospects and salary with them the pay seems reasonable and suitable for the jobs.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • there were some opportunities mentioned in the staff room and discussions were ongoing for possible group meet-ups outside of the work in the local town as well as celebrating people's birthdays and i also noticed flyers for activities in the local community too.

  • 9. Would you recommend Marks & Spencer to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • everyone was really friendly and helpful. the manager and supervisors were not strict and condecending, they showed an interest in me and seemed like they take good care of the staff. there are perks to the job and the salary for different jobs in the stores seem reasonable.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Marks & Spencer?
  • i would say to just go to your local store if you are looking for experience first before fully applying, plus you may be more likely to get a job in the store if you have shown interest and willingness to have a week or two unpaid experience first.
