  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Electromechanical engineering and my daily tasks include creating circuits in the electrical lab and doing PEO and work towards my electrical qualification. We have projects to complete at the training school and things we can do during the day. There is a bit of theory to work towards our exams and ensures that we have enough time to revise for them.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since starting at DSTL I have achieved merits in the particular exams we have done. I have done better with social skills and working in teams and also individually. Everyone in the apprenticeship gets along and we can all work as a team. I have learnt a lot about electromechanical engineering that I didn't previously know.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • It meets it well. I personally do not live alone or drive but I know others in my apprenticeship do and they manage with the salary we receive. I think the salary is fair and is a very good pay for an apprenticeship.

  • 9b. Why?
  • DSTL has helped me to meet new people and develop my social skills. The work is interesting and fun, all tutors are friendly and treat us like adults. It's different to college or university and offers an attractive salary.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Dstl?
  • If you are offered an interview revise the company and see what they do and what they're about. Work hard in school or college before-hand to ensure you get the grades/qualifications you need. Work hard during assessments to ensure yourself a place and be confident because everyone is extremely friendly and welcoming.
