  • An overview of my role, and what involves on a day to day basis is designing, manufacturing and building electronic circuits along with the necessary research required to ensure they fit the designated specifications.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Over the course of my apprenticeship I have been given many opportunities to develop skills I had and develop whole new ones under the direction, and support, of experienced and friendly professionals. Some of these skills include leadership, teamwork as well as practical skills like electronic surface mount soldering, machining as well as CAD packages and hand fitting parts.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It gets me willingly out of bed every morning and leaves me satisfied when i go back to bed.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Dstl?
  • I feel valued and appreciated as an apprentice, never belittled or under estimated, everyone is happy to help me if i become stuck or unsure knowing that one day i will be a proficient member of a team.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is well structured with us receiving a broad variety of training and education initially to make sure we a sufficiently versed to adapt to roles within the business when we later move on the a real work place with occasional returns to training to advance it in more complex fields allowing us to be better versed in more advanced areas of work

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Our training provider consistently provides us with sufficient support to allow us to move forward with out learning and understanding overall as well as letting advance our learning on our own into areas the pique our curiosity.

  • Our employer gives as much support as we need to make sure we are happy and able to do our job to the best of our ability, not just a bare minimum.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary I'm provided is plenty to cover my living costs and other needs while also affording me limited luxury as well as a comprehensive pension plan for the future.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • The out of work support group is vast providing many opportunities for apprentices to properly integrate into the business and increase our network of colleagues and friends within the work place.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Because DSTL has afforded me many opportunities to not only improve myself within a work context but also improve my skills that will help me the rest of my life in and out of work.

  • Be sure to take any opportunity provided for you and that good work does not go unnoticed, maximum effort will definitely provided maximum results.
