  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a process technician. this involves reviewing processes to improve them or fix existing products in order to speed up or make a process easier. Day to day I will often speak to my manager to be assigned with new tasks, speak to operators to see if there are any existing problems that can be solved. I have been assigned with designing new jigs independently and raising a change request for them.

  • problem solving. CAD, SAP, drawing techniques at college I have learnt basic electronic and mechanical principles and this has given me a NVQ level 2. I am also studying a BTEC level 3 in engineering. Internally I have undergone training in how to operate AutoCAD (CAD software) and use SAP.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Teledyne/E2V?
  • I often have catch ups with my manager to discuss progress and good pieces of work I have done have been recognised by him and I have received a 'stars award' for this. the first year apprentices are in a schools challenge where we design a challenge for primary school children to do one afternoon that includes both beneficial education and a fun activity.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • We had a one week induction followed by 4 months at college to get a basic qualification. after this we had a month of training at the company to teach us about basic processes of the company. We have 1 day at college weekly on a Wednesday. I have a mentor which I have regular catch ups with. the program is very well organised.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • A lot. he is in constant contact with the apprentices and insists on constant catch ups to ensure all apprentices are working towards the correct targets. it always seems like he has a lot of time for the apprentices and nothing is too much of an ask. I have very much enjoyed the support I have received.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • from my manager I receive much support, he works on an open door policy so if I ever need help I only have to ask. If we need help and I cannot find my manager I can always report to the HR team or my mentor. I can contact anyone with an email or a phone call and receive a response very quickly.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • all costs are fine within my wage. I can pay for fuel, hobbies and going out. I have to pay for fuel daily and I also have to pay rent, however, if you live further away than I do at work (25 miles) this salary may not be sufficient.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I have visited a convention called 'surface world' which allowed me to discover different ways of plating and where things like acid baths and heaters are supplied from. when I am not working I enjoy to go road cycling.

  • 9. Would you recommend Teledyne/E2V to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • because of the amount of support I have received from all of Teledyne/e2v, I have my college courses funded and have been given proper work to do at work rather than just the rubbish jobs that no one wants to do. I have been made to feel accepted in a team and that is important to me.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Teledyne/E2V?
  • Apply early and ensure to talk about your key work/school achievements about engineering. ensure you talk about why you want to be an engineer and where you would like to see yourself in the future.
